The Book Nook needs new inventory!

The Friends of the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library sponsor periodic Donation Days.  Donations are used to restock the Book Nook and raise funds to support the library.

  • How much can I bring in?  No more than FOUR bags or boxes of books (Please no huge boxes or bags; banker’s boxes are perfect).
  • How about my math textbook from 1985?  We do not accept textbooks, computer books or travel guides
  • My books have been in my garage since Covid started!  Ask yourself – “would I buy this??” as you sort through any potential donations. We cannot sell moldy, smelly, mildewed, stained, damaged, or heavily highlighted or underlined materials. They are immediately recycled. Please don’t make our volunteers waste their time sorting through your damaged books.
  • When will you accept donations every day again?  Due to storage restrictions and volunteer shortages, we are unable to accept donations on an everyday basis at this time. We will be scheduling donation days periodically throughout the year.

Cozy up with a good book!  The Friends of the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library will hold a Book Nook Table Sale from March 19 to April 2, 2024.  Tables at both library entrances. A large selection of great titles!

Easy payment at the Customer Service Desk. We accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards.

All proceeds from the Book Nook & Book Nook Table Sales support library programming and services such as summer and winter reading programs, STEM programming, craft kits, staff education, and the beloved fish tank.

Thank you for your support!  The Book Nook is run by the Friends of the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library and all proceeds fund library programming and services.

The Book Nook was started in 2003 by Gretchen Schwobel and Maureen Torrens, as an outreach of the Friends of the Henrietta Hankin Library. It has grown and changed over the years. Many patrons are very pleased to see how well the books are displayed, the continually refreshed shelves and the monthly sale specials.

The Book Nook is located across from the Circulation Desk in the lobby of Henrietta Hankin Library. The Nook is open when the library is open. All payments are made to the Circulation Desk.

The Nook offers via a pay what you wish for – “pre-loved” books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and jigsaw puzzles. These are obtained from the library, and the surrounding community as donations. Prices are nominal ranging from $0.50 to $7.

Proceeds from the sales of books help support the many library projects sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Twice annually the Nook holds book sales when the community, patrons, and book-resellers come in to find gems. After the sale, the Nook distributes un-purchased books to various local non-profits to aid in literacy.  If you are a local non-profit and wish to be added to the list for post book sales, please contact us

Book Nook volunteers sort all donations received, keep the Nook shelves filled, and remove dated items for storage until the next semi-annual book sale. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us.

We do not accept moldy, smelly, smoky, wet, heavily underlined or chewed books. All CDs or DVDs must be present, and not intensely scratched. We do not accept VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or encyclopedias. If items received are still usable, but not presentable for sale, we donate them to area hospitals, the VA, and senior citizen homes. Current event magazines are accepted, and back-dated instructional magazines, such as Fine Woodworking or Cook’s Illustrated. National Geographic magazines are always available for free, while supplies last.

Due to space limitations in the Book Nook area, many books offered at the book sale have not been offered in the Nook the previous six months. Some real finds are a bonus during the large book sales. The semi-annual book sales provide about half of the money donated back to the library for their programming needs. The remaining half comes from the weekly income earned in the Nook throughout the year.
